Cathy Bolton Introduces Wam-Bamboo Nappies from Geobel!

I have supplied fabrics into the nursery industry and childrenswear sector for about 12 years now. Our customers included, Mamas and Papas, Mothercare, Silver Cross and Maclaren...., therefore all our fabrics have to meet very strict regulations ensuring there are no harmful dyestuffs or azo-dyes.

Years later I had twins George and Isobel who will be 2 on New Years Day. I had always used disposables with my elder children now 14 and 12 but I felt that I really wanted to make a difference so I started using cloth. It wasn't long before I wanted my own nappies, with our own brand Geobel aptly named after the twins!! So working with our childrenswear manufacturers and using one of our fabrics 'Bamboo Dream' we produced prototype after prototype. George and Isobel being the guinea pigs.

We felt that our quality Bamboo Dream Terry was the perfect choice for the nappy as it offered the following properties:-

a.. Environmentally friendly and highly bio-degradeable,
b.. Hardly any impact on the environment,
c.. Contrary to cotton, it can thrive without the use of pesticides,
d.. Compared to fibres originating from wood or any oher petrochemical fibres, bamboo has a short growth cycle and is easily cultivated,
e.. Antibacterial by nature and has been tested by the Japanese Textile Federation,
f.. Surpasses cotton in moisture absorption. Its criss cross texture creates microscopic openings to guarantee truly exceptional moisture absorbtion,
g.. Tests show that Bamboo absorbs 60% more moisture than cotton,
h.. Slim, silky soft fabric.

I love the Wam-Bamboo nappy, George a heavy wetter is dry after 10 hours through the night with extra bamboo booster, I love the slim fit enabling them to wear anything.

Once we were happy with the model we unleashed it to the public, via a Forum board "washabums" ( you can still read up on the trial) and we were delighted with the feedback.

We are currently looking at new bamboo products which are being launched at the Koln Fair in October .... which we hope are as successful as the nappy.
