With Autumn seemingly already upon us (please bring back the sun!), itís time to review all those healthy eating plans (or intentions). Some of these days itís just a bit too cold for salads and smoothies. So we here at Raw Intent, we have compiled a list of our favourite warming treats and inspiring ideas to combine some of our Superfoods. We like to use the superfoods as foods to load our bodies with essential nutrients the natural way. These can help to stave off the cravings, support the blood sugar and energy balance. (Please read the recipes as these include simple tips for more healthy eating which you can combine in daily ways.)
Some top tips to get you through the change of season:
Increase your Light Intake: Essential Omega Oils (flax and hemp) will increase the phyton activity in your body enabling your cells to keep more movement, the brain to function at itís best and absorption of vitamins and minerals. Donít forget the soya lecithin as this will assist in the absorption of the oils. Look out for our Flax and Hemp Oils coming soon.
Reach your Depths with Seaweed: We are introducing Seagreens a range of Nutrient dense seaweeds in capsule, granular and table use form. These added to soups, salads, rice dishes, pasta, sandwiches, dressings will immediately set you up for a more energised and healthy existence. Taking seagreens has been shown to support the balance of a healthy thyroid function and blood sugar balance. We are also able to source our very own Dulse from the West Coast of Ireland Ė yum.
Support your molecular structure with Pure Coconut Oil: Cooking with Coconut Oil not only means that the cellular structure of the oil stays in place when you heat it (unlike un saturated fats) it also adds a delicious flavour. It can increase the feeling of Satiation, support Thyroid function, absorption of minerals into the brain (whose cells are saturated fat by majority) and therefore can support weight loss. Enhance your Liver - Increase your Greens: Barleygrass and Wheatgrass powders are so versatile they can be added to soups, stews & dressings for a load of chlorophyll, essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Hemp Seeds & Pumpkin Seeds will also add extra Zinc (particularly good for men) and essential fatty acids to your daily food intake. Pre- soak/sprout the seeds for extra absorption.
Boost your System and Moods - Vitamin C Burst: Camu Camu the highest known source of Vitamin C on the planet will help to stave off those winter blues and bugs. Add _ teaspoon up to four times daily to water/juices/smoothies Ė or just eat it off the spoon. It tastes like fizzy sherbert!
Wholesome wholefoods Ė Short grain brown rice and Quinoa are fantastic foods any time of year. Very nourishing, sustaining and packed with vitamins and minerals. Add a teaspoon of Coconut Oil, a tablespoon of Yacon Syrup for a sweet treat. Add _ to 1 teaspoon of Barleygrass and/or Maca to increase your nutrient load.
Live Foods Ė donít forget your sprouts (and I donít mean Brussels!). Raw living energy in the form of sprouts can be added to any meal or snack with the greatest of ease. Use to top salads, soups, stews, sandwiches, cereals and even deserts. Blend in with smoothies or crush with juices. Pure live enzymes to keep your cells renewed and growing through the Winter.
A few recipes to warm you up:
Warming Hormonal Soother
Ė This is so soothing and great for the hormones, libido or any periods of change. It reminds me of horlicks or ovaltine. By adding Yacon Syrup it will help to support blood sugar, intestinal flow and microflora balance. This may give you energy (particularly with added Cacao) so unless you have plans/designs for the night, donít have it too late!
Maca, Caramel Carob, Rice(/Hemp/Almond) Milk
Optional Extras: _-1 teaspoon raw cacao powdered, _-1 teaspoon Yacon/Agave Root Syrup or _ teaspoon of lucuma powder, _ teaspoon Barleygrass (for the already converted!).
Heat one cup of Milk to just below simmering. Combine _-1teaspoon each of Maca and Caramel Carob in a paste with Rice/Almond/Hemp Milk. Fill the cup stirring as you go.
Warming Porridge Glow
Ė There are two ways to do this depending upon your digestion. For those with more sensitive digestion, please gently heat the oats after soaking them overnight. We would recommend using Yacon or Agave syrup to sweeten rather than dried fruits and adding nuts, seeds and oils as these will all support your blood sugar balance giving you more sustained and constant energy balance through the day.
1 cup Porridge Oats, 1 cup Spelt Flakes, 2 tablespoon Sunflower and/or Pumpkin seeds, Handful Wolfberries/Goji Berries, 1 tablespoon Almonds, Rice/Hemp/Almond Milk
1 teaspoon Yacon/Agave Syrup, chopped dried fruits, blackberries.
1 teaspoon Miso, Sprinkling of Seagreens Table Condiment
Quinoa Flakes, Buckwheat, 1 teaspoon Cacao Nibs or Beans, 1 teaspoon Maca, 1 teaspoon Bee Pollen, 1 teaspoon Hemp Seeds, 1 teaspoon Flax/Hemp Oil, 1 teaspoon Soya Lecithin, 1 teaspoon Coconut Oil, 1 teaspoon Barleygrass or Wheatgrass (for the already converted!).
Pre soak base ingredients together in a bowl overnight with 1 cup freshly filtered water. This includes wolfberries, seeds and nuts but not the powdered superfoods. If you will be heating the oats in the morning soak the seeds, nuts and wolfberries separately. Warm _ cup milk to just under simmering and add appropriate amount. Add powders, syrups, Oils as chosen and enjoy your really sustaining and satiating breakfast.
Warming PuriTee Infusion
Ė This is a gentle, yet powerful, way of enhancing your vitality. Great for those who find some of the flavours of superfoods difficult.
Add 1 tablespoon of PuriTee to 1 litre of filtered water in a saucepan. Leave overnight to steep. Bring to just under simmering point and drink as required. To store keep in an airtight container in the fridge and add _ and _ with hot water, or drink cool for a light refreshing summer drink (for when we see the sun again). This infusion mix can also be added to smoothies, juices, soups to boost nutrient values and enhance absorption. It can also be combined with 1 teaspoon of barleygrass/wheatgrass to enhance efficient alkalising.
Ė A delicate and gentle way to support the immunity balance.
Add 1 tablespoon of PuriTee to 1 litre of filtered water in a saucepan. Leave overnight to steep. Bring to just under simmering point and drink as required. To store keep in an airtight container in the fridge and add _ and _ with hot water, or drink cool for a light refreshing summer drink (will we see the sun again?). This infusion mix can also be added to smoothies, juices, soups to boost nutrient values and enhance absorption. It can also be combined with 1 teaspoon of Barleygrass/Wheatgrass to enhance efficient alkalising.
