UNITED STATES The Monitor
DRESSSING GREEN
“Go through your wardrobe, take out all the clothes you don’t wear and take them either to the charity shop or to a local second-hand boutique, if you have one,” said Rachel Rogers, of the United Kingdom based Natural Store. “If you sold your clothes, you could then use the money to treat yourself (guilt free) to some charity shop, second-hand boutique or e-bay bargains. Or, be reckless on your computer’s search engine for green directory’s and have a relaxing Saturday morning visiting all the online ‘ethical fashion’ stores (like The Natural Store) from the comfort of your home.”
“If you are purchasing a newly-made garment, we would recommend that you look for those made without the use of large amounts of chemicals and pesticides such as hemp or organic cotton, those that are fairly traded or those where by-products are used or products recycled such as modal (wood pulp) or PET (recycled plastic),” said Rogers.
She adds that it is often difficult to find the perfect “green” outfit because it may be made from an environmentally good fabric like hemp, but died with harmful chemical dyes. Or you might stumble across a fair trade shirt from Guatemala, but rather than being made with organic cotton, the shirt uses regular cotton. No one garment is perfect; there is always room for improvement,” . |

EMS News - Yorkshire Forward
Mia Lake Hannan, EMS Project Manager at Yorkshire Forward, said "The support from local and national companies, providing these greener alternatives for the events, has been quite staggering, and colleagues have welcomed the opportunity to be re-educated about the healthier alternatives - kinder to the individual and the planet. Mia went on to say that "The average consumer is often led to believe that products are less harsh if the label happens to have the word 'natural' or healthy contained within it. However, this is often just a marketing ploy and closer investigation of the ingredients, is usually required."
On behalf of Yorkshire Forward, Mia would personally like to thank the following companies/individuals for their involvement and support, and is looking forward to working with them on future events - The Natural Store |
